A calmer digital family life

Build practical agreements around devices, games and sharing photos.

Make the rules together

Start with the moments that matter to your household: meals, sleep routines, homework or time outdoors. Ask children what feels fair and explain why a rule exists. Use clear language and a few specific agreements rather than a long list of prohibitions.

Include the adults

Decide how parents and caregivers will model the same habits. Agree where devices are used and what happens when somebody needs an exception. A review date creates space to adapt the agreement as children grow or circumstances change.

Talk about photos and help

Discuss asking permission before sharing another person’s photo and who a child can approach when something online feels uncomfortable. Make the conversation ongoing and welcoming. Parental controls can support a family approach, but they do not replace communication.

Use specialist guidance
